Technical Details: ZettaE2E is a non-intrusive, intelligent monitoring system for LAN, WAN and ATM networks based on a highly scalable, distributed client/server architecture. The system enables the network professional to proactively monitor the network rather then reactively troubleshoot it. The system is comprised of software and intelligent probes that are placed on strategic links throughout the network, most often to monitor mission critical applications. ZettaE2E’s distributed architecture is the key to the system’s operation. It enables the collection of data in unsurpassed 10 second increments. This level of data granularity allows network professionals to have a clear picture of the network both in real-time and via 2 years of historical trend data, thus allowing for problems to be solved before they occur and providing the ability to produce appropriate capacity planning. The distributed architecture also provides for easy installation, no configuration of the probes is needed, thus saving time and money. Auto detection of Ports, Protocols, Applications, IP Pairs, VP/VCs and Users also enables network professionals to quickly and easily assess situations so that corrective actions can be taken before they become critical
ZettaE2E is composed of the following components: Network Manager, Alarm Manager, Protocol Analyzer, Statistics Report Generator and FastExpert. Network Manager is the heart of the system. It enables the network professional to remotely monitor and analyze network activity in real time. Through the Network Manager, the auto detection of ports, protocols, applications, IP addresses and users takes place. The Network Manager provides end-to-end Round Trip Time measurements on a real time basis without placing any additional burden on the network. These measurements are performed per virtual circuit, IP conversation pair and IP address. The Network Manager communicates with the probes via UDP and FTP mechanisms, pulling only relevant and consolidated data to the client for viewing or Web publishing. Alarm Manager allows the network manager to set the parameters for which events an alarm should be sent. Alarms may be sent to email addresses or the Management Console for resolution. Long-term storage of events and extensive drill down capabilities allow the network manager to resolve events before they become critical and to view and understand trends that may be occurring. Protocol Analyzer decodes over 300 protocols and complex encapsulations. It allows the user to present the frames, the decoding of a selected frame and the full data contained in a frame all in one screen. Statistics Report Generator provides the user with over 200 predefined reports and the ability to produce customized reports when needed. Reports can be edited via the web and can include active histograms and graphics. The reporting process is fully integrated from data collection on the network to data storage on the probe, data processing and reporting on a web server. Active X technology allows the user to zoom in on or move to a definitive period of time and export the data directly from a graph. Reports can be produced on an adhoc basis or can be pre-scheduled. The Report Generator facilitates the enforcement of Service Level Agreements. The FastExpert is an analysis tool that accurately diagnoses each monitored network element, detecting all abnormal conditions and predicting future network issues. Each event is automatically updated and compiled into a detailed report which clearly presents the network’s behavior and provides useful advice and explanations about the problems detected. FastExpert is accessible from a web browser.
